HELLER DEFENDS OIL SPECULATORS
Votes to Keep Enron Loophole Open
RENO, NV--In a move that will help keep oil and gas prices high, Dean Heller today voted against a measure to curb oil speculation and close the Enron Loophole.
The bill, The Commodity Market Transparency and Accountability Act (H.R. 6604), would have taken crucial steps to curb excessive speculation in the energy futures market in order to bring down gas prices. The measure, which required a two-thirds vote to pass, failed 276-151, just 9 votes short.
HELLER VOTE DRIVES OIL PRICES HIGHER
Reno, NV--Oil prices gained Thursday after an effort to open the Strategic Petroleum Reserve was blocked by House Republicans Thursday. Congressman Dean Heller voted against the measure, which would have provided immediate oil price reduction.
"Heller's vote against direct oil price relief is shocking," said Derby Campaign Manager David Mason. It is one step that would have a direct and immediate impact on the price of oil. There is no excuse for voting against such a measure. In times like these, we just can't afford Dean Heller."
DERBY OUTRAISES INCUMBENT OPPONENT
Reno, NV – Demonstrating her campaign's growing momentum, Democratic Congressional Candidate Jill Derby today announced raising over $293,000 in the second quarter of 2008, with greater than $353,000 cash-on-hand. This is more than 30% greater than incumbent Republican Dean Heller's reported second quarter receipts of just $224,000.
With the final numbers tallied, Derby took in $293,393.39, with $353,058.80 cash-on-hand.
