HELLER VOTE DRIVES OIL PRICES HIGHER
Reno, NV--Oil prices gained Thursday after an effort to open the Strategic Petroleum Reserve was blocked by House Republicans Thursday. Congressman Dean Heller voted against the measure, which would have provided immediate oil price reduction.
"Heller's vote against direct oil price relief is shocking," said Derby Campaign Manager David Mason. It is one step that would have a direct and immediate impact on the price of oil. There is no excuse for voting against such a measure. In times like these, we just can't afford Dean Heller."
Democratic Congressional Candidate Jill Derby supported the measure, which would have freed 70 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help ease domestic oil prices. The measure, which needed a two-thirds majority to pass, failed 268-157, just 16 votes short.
