DERBY OUTRAISES INCUMBENT OPPONENT
Outpaces Heller by More Than 30%
Reno, NV – Demonstrating her campaign's growing momentum, Democratic Congressional Candidate Jill Derby today announced raising over $293,000 in the second quarter of 2008, with greater than $353,000 cash-on-hand. This is more than 30% greater than incumbent Republican Dean Heller's reported second quarter receipts of just $224,000.
With the final numbers tallied, Derby took in $293,393.39, with $353,058.80 cash-on-hand.
"This strong showing is more proof of growing momentum in Jill Derby's campaign for change," said Derby Campaign Manager David Mason. "This is a grassroots, people-powered effort. The vast majority of Jill's contributors are Nevadans, people who know how badly Nevada's Second Congressional District needs a change in representation."
Derby now has over 1,100 individual contributors, nearly 75% of which are from Nevada. This quarter's total is more than double that of her first quarter FEC report, when she was in the race for just four full-time weeks of fundraising. This total also outpaces her 2nd Quarter 2006 fundraising by $37,000.
Derby now stands within the critical 2:1 cash-on-hand threshold for competitiveness with her opponent, once Heller's 20-month old outstanding debt to vendors is taken into account. As of July, that debt was nearly $370,000, more than a third of Heller's current cash-on-hand.
Jill Derby, a fourth-generation Nevadan, started life on her family’s Flying Flapjack Ranch in Lovelock and rural Nevada has shaped the values she holds today. Derby is running for Congress to bring real change to Washington--to fulfill our promises made to veterans, forge a sensible energy plan, ensure access to health care for all Americans, and demand fiscal responsibility in government.
