Centrist Blue Dog Coalition Endorses Derby
May 15, 2008
RENO, NV – Today, the fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition announced its endorsement of Jill Derby in the race for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District. The Blue Dogs are a group of moderate and conservative Democrats in the House of Representatives who advocate responsible fiscal policies and commonsense government.
"I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Blue Dog Coalition," said Derby. "The Blue Dogs work for straight talk and fiscally conservative values and we need more of both in Congress. I look forward to working with them to bring the real change we need to Washington."
The fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition was formed in 1995 with the goal of representing the center of the House of Representatives and appealing to the mainstream values of the American public. The Blue Dogs are dedicated to a core set of beliefs that transcend partisan politics, including a deep commitment to the financial stability and national security of the United States.
“The Blue Dogs provide a moderating voice in a Congress that is all too often driven by partisan politics,” said Rep. Mike Ross (AR-04), Blue Dog Co-Chair for Communications. “We believe Jill Derby is someone who will join us in our fight to bring commonsense back to government and offer real, practical solutions to the problems facing Americans today. The Blue Dogs are proud to offer Jill our endorsement today.”
Jill Derby, a fourth-generation Nevadan, started life on her family’s Flying Flapjack Ranch in Lovelock and rural Nevada has shaped the values she holds today. Derby is running for Congress because she’s fed up with career politicians who put themselves and their party ahead of what’s right for the country--living up to the promises made to veterans, ensuring a secure nation, a sensible energy plan, affordable prescription drugs, accessible health care, and a fiscally responsible government.
